A former Thames Valley Police officer and her lover have been found guilty of stealing thousands of accident victims' details from her force computer.

Sugra Hanif and Raza Khan, both 27, were convicted of conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office.

Khan's wife Paramjeet Kaur faces the same charge. The jury at Winchester Crown Court is considering her case.

The trial heard the conspiracy, which began in January 2011, could have netted them more than £1m.

Hanif, of Bretch Hill, Banbury, Oxfordshire, would access the Thames Valley Police computer and note the personal details of members of the public involved in road accidents, prosecutor Peter Asteris said.

'Referral fee'

Khan and Ms Kaur, 26, both of Ivy Road, Handsworth, Birmingham, set up case management companies to sell this information to firms of solicitors with Hanif, the court heard.

The solicitors would pay the trio a referral fee for each case that led to a successful compensation claim, Mr Asteris told the jury.

Each referral fee was worth between £600 and £800 and they gained a total of £26,400 from the 2,456 cases details Hanif stole during the 11-month conspiracy, he said.

Mr Asteris said Hanif claimed she was forced under duress from Khan to steal the data, while Khan and Ms Kaur claimed they did not know the data was illegal.

The jury was sent home to consider its deliberations regarding Ms Kaur on Friday.
