Honours across North East and Cumbria

People from many walks of life across the North East and Cumbria were among those recognised on the New Year's Honours list.

Among those honoured were Kate Farnell, from Gateshead, who set up the Butterfly Trust in 2003 after surviving rare thyroid cancer.

Sarah Dunning, the chief executive of Tebay Services in Cumbria was appointed OBE while Northern Echo editor Peter Barron was appointed MBE.

Gateshead's Angel of the North creator Antony Gormley received a knighthood.
