Man injured by falling manhole cover at Sussex school

A worker on a building site suffered serious injuries when he was apparently hit by a falling manhole cover.

The 26-year-old from Kent was working in a hole at Langley Green Primary School, in Crawley, West Sussex.

He was taken by air ambulance to the Royal London Hospital, in east London. No-one else was injured and no children were on the site, which is sealed off from the rest of the school.

Sussex Police and the Health and Safety Executive are investigating.
