Walthamstow shooting victim faces firearms charge

A man who was shot by police in east London has been charged with possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Gheorghe Anitoaie, 43, of no fixed address, was wounded in Hale End Road in Walthamstow, on Tuesday evening.

Mr Anitoaie has been released from hospital following treatment for wounds to his arms and is now in custody.

He will appear before Thames Magistrates Court, east London, on Monday,

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating the circumstances of the shooting.
