Course offer to Norfolk and Suffolk drunks to cut fine

26 July 2013 Last updated at 16:16 BST

Drunk people in Norfolk and Suffolk will be offered the chance to avoid an on-the-spot £90 fine.

The Alcohol Diversion Scheme will give the opportunity to go on a drink awareness course, run by the Druglink charity.

Supt Jon Dodman, from Suffolk police, said: "I'm confident it will work, because 50% off the fine has got to be quite an attractive offer just to attend the course."

Kevin Burch reports.
