Godalming woman dies at Southwater road crash scene

A 19-year-old woman has died at the scene of a road crash near Horsham after her car left the road.

Sussex Police said officers were alerted to a car on fire on the verge of the northbound A24 at Southwater on Wednesday afternoon.

Sgt Rob Baldwin said the woman, who has not yet been named, was from Godalming, in Surrey.

Anyone who saw the crash just after 16:00 BST, near the Buck Barn crossroads, is urged to contact police.

Officers said it happened about 0.6 miles (1km) north of the crossroads junction.

They said the woman was the only person in the car.

The road was closed for about five hours while emergencies services dealt with the crash.
