Part of the M40 has been closed in both directions after a car transporter carrying vehicles hit the central reservation, shedding its load.

A "large recovery operation" is in progress after the crash between junctions 11 at Banbury in Oxfordshire and 12 at Gaydon in Warwickshire.

Diversions are in place following the incident at about 18:30 BST, the Highways Agency said.

The section of the motorway will remain closed until the morning.

Drivers are warned they face long delays.
