Shotton Colliery crash: Third woman dies

A third woman has died following a collision in County Durham.

Megan Robinson suffered serious injuries in the crash in Shotton Colliery, near Peterlee, on Sunday.

The 19-year-old of Passfield Square, Thornley, died in hospital. She was the passenger in a Fiat driven by Rebecca Learoyd, 18, who died at the scene.

Anne Peachey, in another car, was also killed. The driver of a third was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and later bailed.

Two passengers in the Citroen driven by 60-year-old Mrs Peachey - her daughter and granddaughter - suffered injuries which are not believed to be serious.

Durham Police has appealed for witnesses to the crash on Front Street at about 18:00 BST.
