Former BBC presenter Kay Alexander is appointed MBE

A former BBC television presenter is among those who have been recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

Kay Alexander, who worked for the BBC in Birmingham for about 40 years, has been appointed an MBE for services to broadcasting and charity work.

She said it was hard to keep the news a secret until the official list was published.

"It's terrible. If you get something like that you want to tell everybody and I couldn't even tell my family," she said.

"I got my letter at the beginning of May."
