Five men and a woman have been arrested over the murder of a jewellery designer, whose body was found after a fire at his Sussex house.

Michael Griffiths, 59, who was also an antique buyer, had been seriously assaulted before he died.

His body was discovered by fire crews, who were called to the scene in Old Glebe, Fernhurst, at about 07:40 GMT on 24 January.

Detectives said accelerants had been used to start the fire.

Mr Griffiths was known locally for his jewellery, which he made at home.

The arrested are all from Surrey - three of the men are from Sunbury, one is from Staines, while the fifth man and the woman are from Shepperton.

The men, aged between 23 and 53, are being held on suspicion of murder, conspiracy to commit burglary and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

The woman, 39, is being questioned on suspicion of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
