Driver charged over Mountbatten Way cyclist death

A driver has been charged with causing the death of a cyclist in a crash in Southampton.

David Irving, 48, from Wimborne, Dorset was riding along Mountbatten Way when the collision took place on 17 December. He died at the scene.

Steven Petterson, 38, of Waterhouse Lane, Southampton, was driving a Ford Transit minibus which was involved in the crash.

He is charged with causing death by driving without due care and attention.

He is due before magistrates in Southampton on 7 June.

In a statement, the family of Mr Irving described him as "kind, thoughtful and devoted to his long-term partner and two beautiful daughters".
