'Pulses' help motor neurone disease patient breathe
An East Yorkshire woman is one of 20 people with motor neurone disease (MND) taking part in a trial to try to improve their quality of life.
Liz Pick, 60, from North Newbald, near Market Weighton, has had a device fitted called a diaphragm pacing system, which delivers electric pulses to strengthen the diaphragm and aid breathing.
It is part of a £1.3m study being led by the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN) and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.
Ms Pick said she felt the device had already prolonged her life.
