Matthew Baird-Parker, 36, of Liversedge, West Yorkshire, was pulled from Arkle Beck at Reeth on 27 January, but died later.

Described as an experienced kayaker by his family, Mr Baird-Parker had become trapped in debris in the swollen river.

Fellow kayakers formed a 'guard of honour' during the funeral at St Mary's Church in Kidderminster, Worcestershire.

Mr Baird-Parker's father, Stephen, said his son had been "full of life" and praised the emergency services who tried to save him.

North Yorkshire Police were assisted by the Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and a RAF air support unit in their search of the water.

An inquest has been opened and adjourned into his death.
