Ex teacher arrested over sexual abuse claims

Some of the offences are alleged to have taken place at Winterfold House School between 1980-85

A former teacher has been arrested on suspicion of sexually abusing pupils during the 1980s.

The offences are alleged to have taken place at Winterfold House School in Chaddesley Corbett, Worcestershire, 1980-1985 and at The Oratory School, Woodcote, Oxfordshire, 1985-1989.

The man, in his 50s, was arrested in the Chichester area on suspicion of gross indecency and indecent assault.

He is currently being questioned by West Mercia Police.

Det Insp Adam Hartwright said the offences had been disclosed by former pupils and added that officers were keen to speak to others who might have further information.

He said the two schools were co-operating with the inquiry, but emphasised that police were dealing with historic allegations and they were not aware of the man having any contact with the schools since the 1980s.
