A DIY business which employs 50 people in Norfolk and Suffolk has been put into liquidation.

Godfrey DIY Supermarkets Limited, which is based in Norwich and also has stores in Diss and Stowmarket, said sales had been on the decline since 2008.

Managing director Barry Godfrey said it was a "sad day".

"We are not the only retailer to have encountered difficulties since Christmas and probably won't be the last," he said.

Mr Godfrey thanked customers and staff for their "loyalty and commitment" over the past 30 years.

Liquidator McTear Williams and Wood, which has been instructed to place the company in liquidation, said Godfrey DIY would continue to trade as normal until 30 January.

It will then hope to sell the Diss shop, where 14 people work, and the store in Stowmarket, which employs 11 people, as going concerns.
