Armed police stop car on M6 motorway near Warrington

M6 The M6 was closed temporarily during the incident

Part of the M6 motorway was closed when armed police stopped a car as part of a firearms operation in Cheshire.

The southbound carriageway was brought to a standstill at junction 21A near Warrington at about 16:30 GMT, causing delays.

Five occupants of the car were detained for searches, Lancashire Police said.

The motorway has now reopened.
