A man who died on Christmas Day following a crash on the A14 was "the perfect son", his family says.

Thomas Allen, 23, from Soham in Cambridgeshire, died in hospital a day after four vehicles crashed into horses at Sproughton in Suffolk.

His family said words could not express the feeling of "loss and devastation".

"He was liked and loved by everyone who met him," they said. "He was adored by his young sister and all our lives will never be the same."

Mr Allen's family said he had recently been promoted at work and was "thrilled" with the purchase of a new car.

"Life was going really well when he tragically died," the family said. "He was on the road to great things."

They said Mr Allen was a "kind, thoughtful, happy young man, with a wicked sense of humour".

Five or six animals were loose at the time of the accident, which happened at about 22:00 GMT on Christmas Eve, police said. Three horses died at the scene.

A 26-year-old Ipswich man, arrested on suspicion of causing danger to road users, has been released on bail.
