Driver killed as car hits tree crash near Market Drayton

A man has died after the car he was driving hit a tree.

The driver, named by police as Thomas Chevins, 23, of Buntingsdale Road, Market Drayton, died at the scene.

The collision happened on the A53 between Market Drayton and Loggerheads shortly after 01:00 GMT.

An off-duty community responder came across the crash. Other staff, police and fire crews from Shropshire and Staffordshire also attended. The road was subsequently closed for four hours.

An ambulance service spokesman said: "On arrival, crews found a car that had suffered very significant damage.

"Unfortunately, despite best efforts, it was not possible to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene. He was the only occupant of the car."
