Rescued family 'glad to be alive'

Help

The husband of a woman who was swept away from her vehicle down a river says the family is "glad to be alive".

Vanessa Glover was swept away overnight near Umberleigh in Devon. Her husband, and seven-year-old son Silas, who stood on the roof of their vehicle to escape the floodwater, were rescued by passers-by.

The police helicopter, using thermal imaging equipment, and the RNLI located Mrs Glover 200m down-stream clinging to tree branches.

She was taken to hospital and received minor treatment.
