M6 crash: Police name man killed in nine-vehicle collision
One man died in the nine-vehicle crash which left many motorists stranded for hours
A man killed in a nine-vehicle crash on the M6 has been named by the police.
Cheshire Constabulary said he was 54-year-old Alan Bullock, from the Blackpool area.
A 33-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man who were in the same car as the victim are in a serious but stable condition in hospital, police said.
The collision on Monday involved two lorries, two vans and five cars on the southbound M6 near junction 16.
Police said the injured woman lived near Sheffield and the injured man was from the Blackpool area. They were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries following the crash on Monday morning.
Drivers suffered long delays as part of the motorway in Cheshire was shut.
The southbound carriageway between junctions 18 and 16 reopened on Monday night after being closed for almost 10 hours following the collision at about 11:20 GMT.
The accident also affected surrounding roads, in particular the A54 and the A50.
