Bad potato harvest may hit prices in chip shops

A Staffordshire potato grower who sells his crop to be turned into oven chips has said that producers have had "a pretty miserable season" for the second year running.

Robert Lockhart, who farms in Tamworth, Staffordshire, said the weather has been too cold, too wet and with not enough sunlight to give a good crop.

He said his current crop is smaller than usual and has blemishes caused by the wet weather.

There are fears that a shortage of potatoes could cause a rise in the price of chips.
