Paralympic train passengers from Kent and Sussex

An extra 100,000 passengers travelled on trains into London every day from Kent and Sussex during the Paralympic Games, according to rail bosses.

Southeastern said more than 4.9m journeys were made during the Games, including 1m on the high-speed Javelin services.

Crews also helped 2,700 disabled people use services during the 12-day event, which is seven times the usual figure.

Charles Horton, managing director, thanked people for heeding advice.

He said: "Our passengers helped make the Games a success by changing the way they travelled to avoid the busiest times.

"We'd like to thank them again for listening to the travel advice, for altering their journeys and for their patience during this truly memorable event."

The train operator said it had run extra early morning and late night high-speed services to and from the Olympic Park.
