Man remanded over Kent hospital fires

A man has appeared at Canterbury Magistrates' Court on arson and burglary charges after fires at two Kent hospitals and a Sheffield hotel.

Thomas Ashcroft is accused of starting blazes at the Medway Maritime and Kent and Canterbury hospitals last week and Hilton Hotel in Sheffield in July.

The 34-year-old, of no fixed abode, also faces three counts of burglary.

Kent Police said he was remanded in custody to appear at Canterbury Crown Court on 17 September.

Mr Ashcroft was charged on Saturday with three counts of arson with intent and three counts of burglary.
