Men killed in Chester light aircraft crash named

Two men who died when a light aircraft crashed near Chester have been named.

Karl Hendrickson from Mold, Flintshire, north Wales and John Green, 50, from Surrey, died when the plane they were travelling in crashed on Thursday.

The Piper PA-38-112 Tomahawk came down on farmland near Churton, south of Chester, at about 20:55 BST.

It had been reported missing by staff at Hawarden Airport in Flintshire, north Wales. The family of Mr Hendrickson, 43, paid tribute to him.

'Shocked'

They said: "Karl was a loving husband and father. He worked at Airbus for 20 years.

"Karl had a passion for aviation and will be missed by his wife, daughter, family and friends."

Mr Hendrickson worked as design engineer on the single-aisle programme at Airbus in Broughton.

Paul McKinlay, head of Airbus at the plant said: "This was a tragic accident which has claimed the life of a well-liked and respected colleague, Karl Hendrickson.

"His death has shocked the team at Airbus and our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time."

Mr Green was a flying instructor with the Flintshire Flying School, based at Hawarden Airport.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch is investigating.
