The number of train journeys increased by 20% during the Olympics in Kent and Sussex, rail bosses say.

Southeastern said more than 7.7m journeys were made during the London 2012 games, including 1.4m on the high-speed Javelin services.

The train operator said it had run an extra 3,200 trains during the Games.

Charles Horton, managing director, said: "We're only half way through the Games and there's no time for complacency."

Southeastern said 1,000 extra staff were on hand to help spectators.

"We're expecting large numbers of people travelling during the Paralympics in a couple of weeks," Mr Horton said.
