Farmfoods depots targeted by farmers in milk price row

Dairy farmers have blockaded Farmfoods depots in Cheshire and the West Midlands as part of an on-going protest over milk prices.

Campaign group Farmers for Action (FFA) has staged several protests at supermarkets and milk processors over planned cuts of up to 2p a litre.

Up to 150 farmers blockaded the depot in Warrington and about 60 gathered at one in Solihull on Monday night.

No arrests were reported at either site.

'Rising costs'

A BBC correspondent at the Solihull site said about 60 farmers held a "peaceful" protest blockading the gates.

They remained there until 01:00 BST, but police officers stayed until 06:00 BST.

Cheshire Police said up to 150 people converged on the Warrington depot and left soon after midnight.

The FFA has said the cuts, along with rising feed costs, could force hundreds of dairy farmers out of business.

Last month dairy farmers used tractors and trailers to blockade a dairy in Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire.

Demos have also been held in Derbyshire, Somerset, Yorkshire and Leicestershire.
