Students at Plymouth College reacted with delight when 15-year-old Ruta Meilutyte won a gold medal in the final of the 100m breaststroke.
The teenager, who swims for Lithuania, attends the same school as diver Tom Daley.
Coached by Jon Rudd at Plymouth Leander Swimming Club, Meilutyte is the first person to win a medal for her country.
Plymouth College's deputy head, Sarah Dunn, said she was "blown away" by the student's victory.
