Bobby's Fund founder in court for charity fraud
A father who set up a fund to raise money for his son's cancer treatment has appeared in court charged with fraudulently using the donations.
Kevin Wright, 48, is charged with nine counts of fraud and 11 of theft, with some of the offences relating to other children's charities and appeal funds.
His wife, Jacqueline Wright, is accused of converting criminal property.
The couple, previously of Exeter and now of Tamworth, appeared at Nottingham Magistrates' Court earlier.
Both will appear at Nottingham Crown Court for a plea hearing on 12 September.
Ten of Mr Wright's charges relate to donations for treatment of his son Bobby Wright, or to the Bobby Wright Cancer Fighting Fund, or to a company called Bobby's Fund.
Mrs Wright, 42, faces just one charge of converting criminal property, which is alleged to have been committed between April 2005 and December 2008.
The charities and appeal funds were run on behalf of a number of children across the country, including one child who was living in Nottingham at the time of the alleged offences.
The offences are alleged to have happened on various dates between May 2006 and September 2009.
Both defendants, previously of Kenn, in Exeter, but now of Quince Amington, Tamworth, Staffordshire, were given unconditional bail.
