Terry Deary snubs the Queen's Diamond Jubilee

Author Terry Deary explains why he thinks the British monarchy is something we should not celebrate in the Queen's Diamond Jubilee year.

He once declined an invitation from Durham County Council to meet the Queen because he believes her position is based on "undeserved privilege".

Deary admits he is in a minority, but says he will not change his view.

He explains he would get rid of the royal family "not by chopping their heads off like the French did but by ignoring them totally".

The Queen and I is on BBC One North East and Cumbria on Sunday, 22 July at 12:05 BST and nationwide on the iPlayer thereafter.
