Alan Shearer recalls his fears of meeting the Queen

Help

Alan Shearer talks about the day he met the Queen when she visited Northumberland in June 2011.

It was the Duchess of Northumberland's first outing as Lord Lieutenant of Northumberland and a big day for Alan as her deputy.

Alan remembers being worried about how to behave in front of Her Majesty on the walk about in Alnwick.

He also says having lunch with the Queen was something he could not have imagined in his wildest dreams when he was growing up as a "scruffy, little lad in Gosforth".

The Queen and I is on BBC One North East and Cumbria on Sunday, 22 July at 12:05 BST and nationwide on the iPlayer thereafter.
