Gillray's classic caricatures draw political parallels
Cartoonist James Gillray, who lived in the 18th and 19th centuries, is widely regarded as one of Britain's greatest political caricaturists.
Many of the issues explored in his work are similar to those in the news today, from the French Revolution to the financial crisis, unpopular taxes and coalition politics in Britain.
A new exhibition of Gillray's work in Nottingham is striking a chord with modern audiences with its parallels to today's political events.
The Sunday Politics East Midlands is broadcast on Sunday, 13 May on BBC One East Midlands and nationwide on the iPlayer for seven days thereafter.
