Dartford Crossing's QEII Bridge shut as gales forecast

Motorists planning to use the Dartford Crossing are being advised of possible delays due to gale-force winds which could reach 60mph.

Kent Police said the QEII Bridge, which links the M25 between Essex and Kent, would be closed from 22:00 GMT until at least Thursday morning's peak period.

Clockwise traffic, which normally uses the bridge across the Thames, will use the east bore of the Dartford Tunnel.

Anti-clockwise traffic was diverted to the west bore from 20:30 GMT.

The QEII Bridge had to be closed for several hours on Tuesday due to the high winds which caused widespread disruption across south-east England and led to the death of a van driver in Tunbridge Wells when a tree fell on his parked vehicle.
