TV personality Justin Lee Collins has been charged with harassing a former girlfriend in Hertfordshire.

The Friday Night Project host, 37, is accused of causing his ex-partner "fear of violence".

Mr Collins was charged by police in Watford on Tuesday and was released on bail to appear at St Albans Magistrates' Court on 22 December.

A spokeswoman for the comic said he would deny the charge and was "shocked and upset".

"He is unable to comment on the circumstances and the events to which the charge relate because of the proceedings, but he is confident that he will prove his innocence," the spokeswoman said.

A Hertfordshire Police statement said: "Police can confirm that Justin Lee-Collins, from London, has been charged at Watford police station with Section 4 harassment (causing fear of violence)."

Mr Collins, originally from Bristol, is currently appearing in West End show Rock Of Ages.
