MEP urges East Coast route for high-speed rail link

An MEP has called for the planned high-speed rail link to follow the East Coast mainline instead of going through the Midlands.

Eastern region MEP David Campbell Bannerman (Conservative), a former government rail advisor, said his alternative route would be less controversial.
