Thousands of people marched through the centre of London for a rally to mark May Day.

They marched from Islington, north London, to Trafalgar Square, demanding trade union rights, human rights and international solidarity.

The rally, which organisers said was attended by about 10,000 people, was organised by trade unions and international organisations.

The Met said the event was peaceful and there were no reported problems.

A series of speakers denounced Government cuts and called for a fightback against them.

Groups taking part included members of the TUC, the Black Activists Rising Against Cuts, London Anti-Racist Alliance, Wandsworth Stop the War Coalition and the Progressive Nepalese Society UK.
