How will 'mediation assessments' work for divorcing couples?

Help

Divorcing couples in England and Wales will have to go through a 'mediation assessment' before settling disputes.

David Lister, a partner at the law firm Mishcon de Reya, explains on BBC Radio 5 live: "In an ideal world people should try to settle their cases."

"Their relationships as spouses may have fallen away," Lister tells Shelagh Fogarty and Nicky Campbell on 5 live Breakfast.

"A negotiated settlement between lawyers, through mediators, is better for the long-term future of the family."
