Met officer charged with assaulting prisoner

A Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with assaulting a prisoner.

Sgt Adam Leak is alleged to have used excessive force on the man at Fulham and Hammersmith police station in west London on 31 January.

Two other officers raised concerns and the incident was then investigated by Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

The officer is to appear at Feltham Magistrates' Court on 13 September to face a charge of common assault.

The case was referred to the IPCC on 17 February and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) reviewed the evidence and decided to press charges.
