Charge after Durham and Northumbria 'rural crime' probe

A man has been charged after a joint police operation to combat rural crime in Northumberland and County Durham.

Durham Police received a report that a Subaru Forrester and a Ford Transit van had been stolen in the force area at about 0930 BST on Tuesday.

Northumbria Police were alerted and following tip-offs from local people, the Transit van was found near Otterburn.

A 26-year-old man has been charged on suspicion of theft.

A 29-year-old man was also arrested but was later released on police bail pending further inquiries.

The Subaru was found in the Mitford area.
