'Success' for police puppy scheme
West Yorkshire police say a puppy breeding programme which was introduced five years ago has been a success.
The force says by producing the pups it has led to a reduction in the time it takes to train puppies.
This, in turn, means the dogs are working, faster.
The puppies' play training begins from the age of eight weeks old.
The force says if the puppies are put with experienced dog handlers their training can be cut down from 13 weeks to just over six weeks.
West Yorkshire police currently use about 40 dogs.
