Conservative MP Jesse Norman said he was 'sorry' if his actions had led to Paula Radcliffe being linked with the athletics blood doping scandal.
Mr Norman said last year that British marathon winners are under suspicion of "very high levels of blood doping" but his comments were protected from legal challenge by Parliamentary privilege.
Speaking on the Victoria Derbyshire programme Mr Norman said that he was "perfectly happy to say that I am sorry to hear about what has happened and I am sorry it has been taken in this way."
