Iraq: UK focused on humanitarian mission, says Fallon

8 August 2014 Last updated at 13:59 BST

The Defence Secretary Michael Fallon says the UK will assist the United States in its humanitarian operation in Iraq.

Speaking after chairing an emergency Cobra meeting, he said the UK military will offer technical assistance in terms of re-fuelling and surveillance.

The UK will also drop aid in Iraq in the next couple of days.

The defence secretary said the UK's focus was on assisting the Americans' humanitarian operation and not military action.
