Ricky Reel's mother 'shocked' at police spying claims

24 July 2014 Last updated at 12:34 BST

The mother of a student who was found dead after a night out in London in 1997, says she is "shocked" at suggestions police spied on her.

Sukhdev Reel told BBC Radio 5 live's Breakfast the undercover Scotland Yard officers should have been finding out how her 20-year-old son Ricky died, rather than "gathering dirt" on her family.

It comes as a report on undercover officers spying on bereaved families who had been campaigning for justice is due to be published.

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said there was no evidence undercover officers "targeted or infiltrated any family members".
