British prime minister David Cameron's former director of communications, Andy Coulson, has been jailed for 18 months for phone hacking.

Mr Coulson had been found guilty of conspiring to intercept voicemails while editor of the News of the World, which has since closed down.

He was joined in the dock by three former colleagues and the private detective Glenn Mulcaire, who all admitted their part in the crime before the trial began last year.

Tom Symonds reports.
