Passport delay 'cost us our family holiday'

13 June 2014 Last updated at 12:17 BST

People living in the UK whose passport renewal has been delayed will have it fast-tracked for free, the Home Office has said

But the temporary offer will only apply if they are due to travel in the next seven days and the delay is deemed to be no fault of their own.

Darren Lee, from St Albans, missed his flights and had to move his family holiday because of the delay - at a cost of £500.

He told BBC Radio 5 live's Breakfast he was so concerned about losing his second holiday booked later in the year, he asked his local MP to intervene.
