Police and council briefing on Rochdale abuse claims

28 April 2014 Last updated at 10:06 BST

Police are examining whether there is evidence of a criminal cover-up over claims of sexual abuse at a school linked to the late MP Sir Cyril Smith.

Officers are already investigating the abuse allegations at Knowl View school in Rochdale, and the council is set to widen its own inquiry.

Sir Cyril's family has said he always denied such accusations.

Rochdale Council leader Colin Lambert and Greater Manchester Chief Constable Sir Peter Fahy are giving an update on the claims.
