Forces widow calls for pension rule change

9 April 2014 Last updated at 12:08 BST

Campaigners have called on ministers to change a law that makes forces widows give up their spouse's pension if they remarry or cohabit.

Widow Joanna Palmer said she wished to remarry but could not afford to lose her late husband's pension.

She told BBC Radio 5 live's Breakfast: "It's very painful for us that we can't even dream of an old age sitting by the fire with someone you care for."

The Ministry of Defence said it was not planning to change the rules and must ensure the scheme remained affordable.
