Dawlish railway collapse 'could happen again'

4 April 2014 Last updated at 09:10 BST

The main railway line through Dawlish in Devon has reopened after part of the track was destroyed during winter storms.

Patrick Hallgate, route managing director of Network Rail, told the Today programme: "We're really proud of what we've achieved as a rail industry."

He described the storms seen across the UK in February as a "freak event" but added: "We can't say it won't happen again."

First broadcast on the Today programme on Friday 4 April.
