Youth services: Councils 'thinking creatively' - minister

The amount of money spent on services for teenagers in England has fallen by 36% in the past two years, according to figures released to BBC Radio 4's World at One.

Youth workers warned that the long-term cost of the cuts would be "enormous".

Cabinet Office minister Nick Hurd told the World at One on Tuesday that some councils were "thinking creatively about new partnerships and new ways of delivering services".

He said: "I don't want to lose sight of the fact that just because budgets are being reduced that necessarily the quality of services and opportunities available to young people will diminish."
