Goods worth more than £400m thrown away

More than £400m worth of unwanted household items end up being thrown away, despite the fact they are still in good enough condition to use.

And now the Local Government Association wants to see more goods rescued, revamped and resold.

It says almost 615,000 tonnes of material is disposed of, even though it has the potential to be reused.
