Parts of Britain have enjoyed the warmest day of the year so far with the highest temperature of 20.5C (69F) recorded at Gravesend in Kent.

Hordes of people descended on Brighton in East Sussex to enjoy the sunshine.

Brighton beach was the destination of choice for many sun-seekers.

A jet-skier was spotted enjoying the afternoon sunshine off the East Sussex coast.

Punters on the River Cam in Cambridge made the most of the conditions.

In London, parks were busy and a number of people strolled near Buckingham Palace on roads closed for the weekend.

People paused beside the Humber estuary, near Kingston upon Hull, to take in the views and relax.

For others, in Hyde Park in central London, the warm weather provided an opportunity to catch up on their sleep.

Trees and the cloudless sky were reflected in this lake at Thursley Common in Surrey.

And a tree was silhouetted against the setting sun near Ashford in Kent.

Forecasters say the sunny weather is not set to last, as a band of cloud moving from Scotland overnight will give way to a cooler start on Monday.
